One Beijing organization that is very close to our hearts is Educating Rural Girls of China (ERGC), who, as the name suggests, are engaged in fundraising and campaigning to improve education and literacy standards for girls in rural China: a demographic that is often left behind. This Friday from 10am to 10pm, Black Expo is hosting a nationwide online marketplace to help raise money for ERGC, with a huge range of items like clothing, accessories, homeware, food, and other services and talents on offer. Scan the code below to join the group.
10am – 10pm. On WeChat. Free to join
Saturday, Mar 20
This Saturday, Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS) is hosting an open day for their Early Childhood Education (ECE) program. The Open Day will offer parents the opportunity to meet some of the school’s leadership team, and an overview of the early childhood program by coordinators. You can also see some classrooms and speak to teachers who can go into more detail about what the program offers. Scan the QR code below for more info and to register.
9.30-11.30am. YCIS Beijing. Free
Beijing United Charity Spinathon
Get on your (spin) bikes, and ride! That’s the idea this Saturday at Beijing Riviera, which is hosting a charity ‘spin-a-thon’ to raise money for Roundabout and other initiatives educating rural kids in China. Medical professionals from BJU will be on hand to answer your health-related questions, and spin instructors from Human in Motion will be on hand to get those gears cranking. Meanwhile, snacks and drinks by Hulu and Peach will be on hand to keep your energy levels sky-high. It’s billed as a full day of fitness, health-related activities, community vibes, and delicious food and drinks – all for a good cause!
10am-7pm. Beijing Riviera. RMB 100/hour
Sunday, Mar 21
This Sunday, head into the hutongs for a special screening of Mission Blue, a feature documentary about the legendary oceanographer, marine biologist, environmentalist, and National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence Sylvia Earle, and her campaign to create a global network of protected marine sanctuaries. This will appeal to kids who are interested in science and the ocean but the film does contain some rather distressing images of fishing practices (think cutting off shark fins and throwing them back in the water), so it’s probably best suited to older kids (or be ready to cover their eyes). The event is free to attend, but you are encouraged to make a donation in aid of Educating Girls of Rural China (EGRC).
1.30pm. Soi Baochao. Donation

Women’s Strength Class @ Warrior One
This month, a group of fit and fabulous Beijing women have been contributing to Women’s Month with a series of workshops around fitness and wellbeing. All proceeds for the workshops have been going entirely to Educating Girls of Rural China (they’re popular this month!), and the response so far has been fantastic. From 10.30-11.30am next Wednesday, Camila will be leading a strength and conditioning class. Mums and pregnant ladies are very welcome!
10.30-11.30am. Warrior One. RMB 99
