When you have been teaching for any period of time, there will inevitably be a moment when you suddenly realize that teaching is now part of your DNA. There are habits you can’t break, instincts you can’t ignore, and situations you just accept as part of life. Here are a few of my favorite “Yup…I’m a teacher” moments from friends and colleagues.
“I instinctively clapped and yelled, ‘good job’ when a stranger just barely managed to jump on the subway before the car doors closed.”
“Got my nails done Sunday night. My nails at 11:55 Monday morning…”
“I find myself singing ‘Clean up, Clean up’ as I do the dishes at home.”
“Was excited to wear my new jeans! Forgot it was collaborative art day.”
“Contemplating throwing away an empty egg crate or toilet paper roll gives me anxiety.”
“I was fighting with my significant other and I yelled, ‘You are full of shapoopie!’
OK, it’s your turn. Tell me you’re a teacher without telling me you’re a teacher!
