Beijing Dominates Forbes China's List of Top 100 International Schools in China

Beijing’s international schools once again rank high in Forbes China’s list of the top 100 international schools in China, with five of the Top 10 ranked schools and ten of the Top 25.

With 17, Beijing has more in the top 50 than any other area in China, followed by Shanghai (16), Guangdong Province (9), Jiangsu Province (5), and Zhejiang Province (3)

As we’ve blogged before, these rankings are limited in what they can possibly measure and use their own unique criteria. Jingkids was able to determine, however, that Forbes only considered schools with international middle and high school curriculums; international departments of local schools were not considered. In addition, the total value of the school’s property, the school’s annual income, the total number of teachers, and the total number of foreign teachers were part of the ranking criteria, which tends to favor larger institutions. Since Forbes is primarily a business media outlet, it makes sense that the financial conditions of schools were considered, since investors would be more interested in those data points than most parents.

Academic criteria that were considered include university acceptance lists, records in inter-school competitions, awards received by faculty, and overall reputation. Now, we all know these studies can’t measure your child’s well-being, the friendships they make, or the impact a teacher may have on your child’s life. Nevertheless, we can still take some pride in how well-represented our city is, regardless!
