It’s warmer now, meaning we’re donning fewer clothes and indulging in way more ice cream than we ought to. So there’s no time like summertime to turn your physical activity up to 11! Jingkids highlights some of the city’s most fun dance fitness classes, where you can strut your stuff while working out to some stellar tunes. All of the following classes are conducted in English.
PartyFit
PartyFit is the ultimate social dance workout, bringing people together to sweat it out with smiles on their faces. The choreography ensures that your heart gets pumping and engages just about every muscle in your body – perhaps even a few you didn’t know you have. Every class includes a variety of music that helps you check your worries at the door and let loose. Sessions are designed to suit every level and you don’t need any dance experience. According to creator AJ, it’s “a total workout that combines all elements of cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility, guaranteed to boost your energy and put a smile on your face every time you complete the class.” I’ve personally been to AJ’s classes, and I definitely left with a smile.

JINDAFIT
JINDAFIT is a group fitness workout based around African moves, rhythm, and music. The workout incorporates high-intensity interval training with dynamic movements, so you’ll boost your endurance and your metabolic rate, all while having fun! You will also build speed and strength, which keeps the body burning fat long after finishing a workout! As an added bonus, when you join their classes, you’re also doing a good deed, as JINDAFIT donates 10% of all proceeds to charities that focus on providing aid to folks in need.

Mommy & Me Class
Are you pregnant or looking for a safe space to drop the kids while you work out? How about exercising with your little bundle of joy in tow? Certified Doula, D4B trainer, and educator Alessia Chizzoniti leads the Dancing for Birth class, which provides just the right mix of labor, postpartum coaching, and dance fitness. Through simple and fun choreography, moms will strengthen their bodies while also bonding with their child! There is plenty of focus on pelvic floor rehabilitation and posture, which is great for postpartum mommies.

Jazzercise

When not writing and editing articles at Jingkids, Vivienne Tseng-Rush serves as Beijing’s first and only Jazzercise instructor. I know, I know… you’re thinking leg warmers and neon unitards, but Jazzercise has come a long way since its inception in 1969 in the US as the original dance party workout. It combines dance, strength and resistance training with popular music for a full-body workout. We lift weights and perform planks and push-ups as much as we plié and chassé in a 55-minute class these days. But don’t take my word for it, try it out for yourself!
