Junior Reporter Experience at the CCTV Tower – CN language event
Perhaps we’re biased because we’re in the reporting game ourselves, but we think this event is a very cool opportunity for Chinese-speaking kids to experience the world of journalism, and also visit one of the most iconic sites in Beijing: the old CCTV Tower. During this day trip, kids aged 7-12 will visit the tower and its viewing platform, learn about what a reporter’s job entails and how to conduct an interview, then choose an interview subject and prepare an outline. After lunch, they’ll find and interview tourists on camera, earning their “Little Reporter” badges for real! To reserve a spot, add 18611488943 on WeChat.
10am-4.30pm. Old CCTV Tower. RMB 398 per child.
Last Chance to See: Lego Joy Planet Exhibition
If you’ve ever experienced the agony of stepping on your kid’s Lego pieces barefoot, then spare a thought for the people who organized this exhibition: Literally, millions of Lego blocks were used to create these masterpieces, which depict Chinese architecture from different periods (including, of course, the Great Wall), and classic Chinese scenes. The exhibition ends this Saturday, so don’t delay!
10am-7pm. 751 D Park, 4 Dashanzi Art District, Jiuxianqiao Lu, Chaoyang District. RMB 158 for 1 adult and 1 child under 1.4m.
TRB Summer Coloring Competition
Saturday is also the last day to enter the the 2nd TRB Summer Coloring Competition, in which children from 4 to 12 years old are invited to share their creative spirit. Any coloring materials are encouraged, the more creative you are, the more chances you’ll have to win free meals at TRB, Hulu, and Peach. To enter, simply ask for plain painting paper at any Hulu or Peach location, or download plain paintings files in the group chat (scan the QR code below). Have fun!

Hike and Swim through Goat Canyon
Ready to play mountain goat this weekend? This slow and relatively short hike in Goat Canyon is a great option for little ones. Clamber over the bouldery canyon to a series of lovely paddle pools, where you can cool off with a dip if you wish. Bring your own picnic lunch to enjoy in the area, and do a little more exploring at your own pace afterward, before heading back to town.
8am, first departure. Bus pickup from Lido and Liangmaqiao. RMB 360 for adults, RMB 180 for kids 5-12
Save the Date…
The biggest, juiciest food festival of the summer is coming Aug 6-8. That’s right, Burger Fest 2021: A Burger Odyssey will be taking over Wangjing for three days of mouthwatering burgers, delicious drinks, and awesome live entertainment. Oh, and it’s space-themed too. So get your family astronaut costumes ready now!
And don’t forget about these ongoing events and exhibitions…
Mars 2035 Immersive Science & Art Exhibition (ends Aug 31). If you’ve ever wanted to discover the red planet for yourself, now’s your chance at this great interactive exhibition.
Miyazaki Hayao and Ghibli’s World Animation Art Exhibition (ends Oct 10). Kids absolutely love the rich and magical world of Studio Ghibli animations, and this exhibition gives them a chance to experience it all up close and in person!
