Yesterday evening several local bars and restaurants in the Sanlitun area sent out a message stating they had received a new government regulation requiring all patrons be fully vaccinated.
So far, Beijing watering holes including O’Steak, Paddy’s, XL, and Groovy Schillers have all sent the WeChat announcements. Likewise, The Local also just confirmed that they too received the notice and sent an announcement to their patrons.
The new regulation could pose an inconvenience for expat families as foreign children under the age of 18 and pregnant women are not yet eligible for the vaccine. We are waiting to hear further details on how this policy will affect those members of our community and will keep you informed as the story develops.
At the time of writing, we hadn’t received official government confirmation of the regulation and so far it only seems to be affecting stand-alone bars and select restaurants in the Sanlitun area. But to be on the safe side we suggest calling your weekend brunch or dinner destination and checking on their policy as well as double-checking your health kit status. And if you are eligible but have not done so, please get vaccinated!
