As summer vacation comes to a close and we set our sights on comfy sweaters and tall boots, I thought we should take a moment to salute the unsung heroes of the school break… our summer camp counselors! Thank you for keeping the kids occupied and parents sane. Thank you for making and wearing endless friendship bracelets. Thank you for singing hours of nonsensical songs with enthusiasm! Thank you for always having an extra bandana and organic bug spray on hand. In honor of your service, we asked you to… tell me you’re a camp counselor without telling me you’re a camp counselor!
“If it’s not attached to me by a lanyard, I have no idea where it is.”
“Family dinner got a little out of control and voices were raised. Without thinking I shouted, ‘If you can hear me clap once!'”
“Silence is an unnatural state which makes me extremely nervous.”
“Flashlight Tag Champion 2019-2021 is listed under special skills on my resume.”
“It’s pronounced s’mores not ‘some mores. Seriously were you raised in a barn?”
“I don’t know but I been told that I said A Boom Chicka Boom to the Princess Pat while we were Goin’ on a bear hunt down by the bay. She wanted to follow the bear over the mountain. Mmmm-mmm I want to linger but I lost my poor meatball and I like to eat, eat, eat, I know… I’m a nut. B-I-N-G-O!”
If you understood all the references in that last one…you’re a veteran counselor and we will see you next summer! Until then, tell us your favorite summer camp moment in the comments below!
