Call me basic, but autumn without a pumpkin spice latte in hand just feels like it’s missing something. Why Starbucks hasn’t brought what is arguably their most iconic seasonal beverage to China yet, and why local restaurants aren’t making their own, is beyond me. Luckily, however, it’s a relatively easy recipe if you’re in the mood to get a bit creative in the kitchen.
Most of the ingredients you’ll need are pretty straightforward and can be purchased from any local grocery store. The only ingredient that’s slightly more difficult to find is the pumpkin pie spice, but we’ve included a link to purchase it online.
According to the Food Network, this pumpkin spice latte takes all of about five minutes to prepare, plus an additional five to make.
Ingredients
1 cup milk
2 tbsp pure pumpkin puree
1 tbsp sugar
1/4 tsp pumpkin pie spice, plus more for sprinkling
1/4 tsp pure vanilla extract
1/4 cup hot espresso or strong brewed coffee
Sweetened whipped cream, for serving
Step 1: Combine the milk, pumpkin puree, sugar, pumpkin pie spice, and vanilla in a medium microwave-safe bowl. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap, and vent with a small hole. Microwave until the milk is hot (1 to 2 minutes). Whisk until the milk mixture is foamy (about 30 seconds).
Step 2: Pour the espresso or coffee into a large mug and add the foamed milk. Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice.
