Our expat community thrives on connection, and here at Jingkids, we’re all about our readers, what they need and want in order to maximize their time here in Beijing. Every Monday, we’re going to feature a prominent member of our expat community and get to know them a little bit better.
Philologist by degree, Alessia Chizzoniti is now living her days with the dream of changing the world.
A Montessori educator, Full Spectrum doula, lactation consultant, entrepreneur of Dancing for Birth, yoga instructor (adults, kids, pre and postnatal), and postpartum rehab specialist, she wears many hats around the expat community here in Beijing. Also the founder of Baobaole Doula services as well as the founder and director of Blossom Montessori Culture Centre, she loves supporting families of all kinds, and in particular enjoys working with moms, women and children of any age. Alessia believes that a healthy society begins with healthy mothers.
What’s On Your Mind?
Oh, that’s a big question to begin with!
Of course, my kids and husband are always my top priority. On a more general note, I make sure that people around me are good, if not great.
What’s your motivation to get moving?
My motivation is knowing that we – for as little as we are – can really make an impact.
I work with families on several levels, as an educator, a doula, and a trainer and if you know me, for sure you have heard me say, “We can change the world, one family at a time”.
How do you stay sane in all the madness?
I do tend to go on overkill mode very easily, so I learned the hard way that I need to intersperse my days with small acts of self-care: my favorite music, some dancing, nourishing food, a quiet cup of coffee.
Yoga and Sound Healing play a big role in my daily routine. Starting and ending the day with a practice that feels good and the sound of my bowl is pure bliss.
And then I have my people: every day I take a few hours off to enjoy my kids, and dinner time with my life companion – which most often turns into us laughing crazily and the kids staring at us. Laughter is the best medicine, isn’t it?
What’s your favorite thing about Beijing?
Freedom to be who you really feel you are, the many chances to fulfill your dreams; and of course the community!
