Our expat community thrives on connection, and here at Jingkids, we’re all about our readers, what they need and want in order to maximize their time here in Beijing. Every Monday, we’re going to feature a prominent member of our expat community and get to know them a little bit better.
My name is Alex Gonzalez, I have 3 amazing children. 2 boys and my baby girl. We’ve been living here in Beijing since 2013. I would say that our favorite food here is Hotpot, Haidilao to be exact. I am a kindergarten teacher in Shunyi, my favorite thing to do with my students is story telling.
What’s On Your Mind?
Allograft vs Autograft. Unfortunately, I am dealing with a torn ACL injury. This ruins the snowboarding mood for this winter, and some of the hiking outings with my son and the cub scouts. But hey, things happen. I am working with Doctor Harvey from Oasis International hospital to make the best long-term decision to keep my active lifestyle intact for the long term.
What’s your motivation to get moving?
My beautiful children are my number one motivation. Nothing has been more motivating than watching them grow and having a deeper and more meaningful relationship with them as they grown and develop their little personalities
How do you stay sane in all the madness?
Having that one person in your life whom you can always talk to. Knowing you can keep active and open communication with her is key to staying sane. And I play soccer, which has been my passion since I can remember. I play in the China International Football League for FC Añejo. Also snowboarding during the winter season.
What’s your favorite thing about Beijing?
I’ve always loved the many camping and hiking options all around Beijing. I have to say my favorite hiking has been on the Great Wall at sunset. But my favorite thing about Beijing is the great mixture of modern and traditional China all in one place.
