I’d like to preface this by saying what you’re about to read is not a how-to guide nor is it some take on a “life in Beijing” insight that’s sweeping across social media. Rather, this is a simple story about friendship and new motherhood.
It begins with a mommy friend of mine asking for a party to celebrate the end of her breastfeeding, which I confess, I had to look up online in a state of mild disbelief. Do people actually celebrate this stuff?
Well, much to my surprise, it turns out weaning parties are a new thing that, according to Good Morning America, could even be “the next big thing.”
When The Real Housewives of Orange County first featured an episode on the trend, it began catching on with other new moms. And why not? Life should be filled with happiness and we should find excuses to celebrate everything!
Of course, baby showers and gender reveals are pretty common nowadays. But because weaning parties are still relatively new, they don’t exactly mean the same thing or look the same way, to everyone. For some, it’s a party to celebrate the official end of a woman’s birthing years, while for others, it means that you’re done breastfeeding and can finally have cocktails with your friends again!
We celebrated the end of our friend Svetlana Ore’s breastfeeding with a night out at her favorite bar and some appropriately themed desserts – boobies! In fact, there are some amazing bakers in Beijing who can make you an elegant breast cake if you too would like to celebrate the magic of motherhood.

Then there are those whose entire bakery thrives on tacky, immature, and erotic confections.
An awesome happy hour deal and cakes that make us laugh are all it takes for a guaranteed great girls’ night out which, let’s be honest, many of us too often underestimate the importance of. It’s no secret that we need to get away from the kids and family for a few hours every now and again so we can recharge our batteries. It doesn’t mean we love them any less, au contraire, I would argue it’s quite the opposite. You need to first take care of yourself before you can take care of and be there for those you love.
So, whether it’s to celebrate the end of breastfeeding, or just because you’re worth it, here’s the recipe for an amazing Girls’ Night Out:
