Working at jingkids sure has its tasty benefits, not least of which is securing a table for my family at our sister publication the Beijinger‘s Pizza Cup Taste-Offs, which have been taking place every weekend since the end of last month. Before you protest, yes we did pay for the privilege. And we were more than happy to consider all the delicious fun we had! Here are three reasons why you should bring your family down to the Pizza Cup Taste-Offs.
1. Family-friendly location
If you’ve never heard of Georgia’s Feast, get ready to pin a new restaurant to the family-favorites list because the venue sponsor of this year’s Pizza Cup is super cozy. Sporting a rustic European vibe – complete with (fake) deer heads on the walls, a (fake) fireplace, and exposed brick – it’s definitely a photo-worthy spot. The restaurant and bar also offer comfortable booth seats, with some that can accommodate groups of up to 10 in more enclosed nooks for an added touch of privacy. The stage area has also seen live music performances, and during the Pizza Cup, hosts the Pizza-lympic Games which you can take part in to win medals and more!
2. Games, prizes, and collectibles!
My kid and his friend were obsessed with trying to win a gold medal in the Pizza-lympics and they tried their hand at all five games – with a bit of help during the trivia portion. They didn’t actually win one, but the generous folks at True Run Media (parent company of the Beijinger and jingkids) which hosts the Pizza Cup, were nice enough to give them one for their efforts. Merely participating in the Games was entertaining enough though! We’ve also been delighted to bring home a different collectible souvenir unique to each round of the Taste-Offs.
3. ALL. THAT. PIZZA.
It’s literally one of the main food groups of most youngsters, and even adults if we care to admit it. Despite the fact that the pizza flavors are relatively new to them, they’ll pretty much try anything so long as there’s cheese on it. And with four different pizzas to choose from, you really don’t have to worry that they’ll be hungry. Georgia’s Feast also allows you to order off their menu should it come to that, though I doubt it will. I didn’t even get to try any of Annie’s 4-Cheese Pizza at the last round because my kid and his friend devoured seven out of the eight slices, with my husband polishing off the last.
And don’t forget, after all that eating, you and your kids get to take part in one of the most important processes of human civilization – voting! This is a great chance to teach your kids about democracy and the power of the people. Or at the very least, they’ll love sticking their vote on the board.
