You’ve been asking us for weeks now, and with the Covid restrictions in Beijing finally easing, we’re excited to announce that we’re opening up for applications for this year’s jingkids summer internship!
We’re calling all aspiring writers to work with us this summer to learn the ins and outs of the media industry and have their work published in this year’s jingkids Teen Takeover issue.
Whether you’re looking to break into the media industry, build up your writing portfolio, land an excellent professional recommendation for that college application, or simply become more integrated into the community, this internship with Beijing’s top family magazine will offer you just that. It’ll be demanding and rewarding in equal measure.
Anyone looking to spend the summer fetching coffee and playing on their phones all day should stop reading now.
We are looking for teens to write for our website and magazine and make valuable contributions to the day-to-day running of jingkids. This is an internship where you’ll be treated like an equal member of the team.
You will:
– Pitch, research, and write articles for the magazine
– Blog regularly for the jingkids website.
– Update and maintain our Facebook and Instagram accounts
– Receive training on interviewing techniques, editing, and essential aspects of journalism
– Help plan and execute events for our community
– Interact daily with professionals in marketing, sales, finance, design, and editorial
You should be:
– A fluent English speaker with strong writing and editing skills
– Web-savvy and fluent in social media
– Enthusiastic and keen to build community connections
– Available to make a daily commitment for the two full working weeks
– Able to arrange your own transportation to and from our Sanlitun office
You do not need to be:
– Fluent in Chinese, though it will certainly help
– Good at making tea/coffee (except for fixing your own)
You will walk away with:
– Professional media experience
– A collection of published works (both online and in print)
– A professional recommendation letter for your college application
– New friendships and a deeper understanding of Beijing
This year’s summer internship will be broken down into three 2-week sessions:
Jun 20-Jul 1 (application deadline: Mon, Jun 13)
Jul 4-15 (application deadline: Mon, Jun 27)
Jul 18-29 (application deadline: Mon, Jul 11)
You’ll be expected to be in the office Monday – Friday from 10am to 4pm with a lunch break in the middle. This two-week intensive training will give you the skills you’ll need to become efficient writers who know how to pinpoint the needs and interests of their readers.
Cost for this year’s internship is RMB 4,000 per person for the two-week program.
If Covid prevents us from holding the in-office internship session, jingkids will give you your money back.
There are a maximum of 8 slots available per session; places will be offered to candidates on a first come, first served basis. Please send in your interest ASAP!
To apply, send a CV and at least two writing samples to minayan@beijing-kids.com or Wilhelmina87 on WeChat. Please specify which session you’d like to attend. We can’t wait to work on this issue with you!

What are the standards of behavior?
We need to clarify that signing up doesn’t automatically guarantee a spot for you with us. You’ll be interviewed as with any job before being selected to join this year’s summer internship. jingkids supports creativity, differences of opinion, and respects each person’s individuality. It’s a free and safe space for anyone to pitch their ideas. We will not tolerate poor behavior amongst our interns. Any bullying, excessive cursing, fighting, lying, etc. will be dealt with by the company’s HR and may result in early termination from the internship without any refund.
