One Beijing expat with energy and know-how to spare has taken it into her hands to spread the love of discovery to little ones in the community. Meet the effervescent Maria Pieterse from South Africa, who’s been in the capital city for four years now.
Hi there! We are the Little Walker’s Club and we love exploring Beijing. We take a walk on the wild side every Sunday and spend some time together in different environments. From a walk in the park to cooking delicious treats together, we always have a lot of fun!
I started the Little Walker’s club back in September 2022 as a way to connect with kids in a new and exciting way. I am so passionate about sharing my own culture but also learning more about the world and its wonders. Since we started we have been on a dinosaur fossil-finding adventure in the park, saw the inspirational work of the Great Da Vinci in living colors, made our own apple doughnuts in a cooking class, and is very excited for the next adventure!
One happy parent said of Little Walker’s Club, “Austin joins the Little Walker’s club every Sunday. Since then, he has been in close contact with nature outdoors, and in various museums and art galleries indoors. During this process, he has not only learned English but also discovered a variety of natural, historical, scientific, and artistic knowledge. I am very happy to see him grow up like this.”
In March, the Little Walkers will undertake a very thrilling project as entrepreneurs. They will take the month to learn what it takes to have a business and how to sell their own handmade products at a market at the end of the month. They will practice buying, selling, and production of handmade items that develop their own unique talents and interest.
Keep an eye out to see what these amazing kids are building this month!
