Looking for some indoor kids’ entertainment to shy away from the blistering Beijing heat? Artspace for Kids (ASK), or 小不点大视界 (xiǎo bù diǎn dà shì jiè), a production company that specializes in bringing international kid-friendly theatrical and musical performances from overseas, has a great option for you this weekend.
“Elephant from an Egg” is a German-Turkish performance that combines physical theatre, live music and puppetry to explore the story of a family of elephants as they welcome a new addition – Peo, a blue elephant that hatched from, of all places, an egg! This tale of curiosity, discovery and growing up uses no verbal lines so the performers rely entirely on their movements, facial expressions, masterful use of puppets as well as the music to tell the story, making it suitable for all audiences. The show is rated age 2+ and lasts just 40 minutes long. This will be the final weekend to catch Elephant from an Egg so don’t wait any longer to get your tickets.
ASK has a great lineup of international acts this year – coming up next weekend from June 15 to July 4 is “The Girl Who Lived in the Shoe Box” from Spain, followed by “Log Leg” from Czech. Most of these international performances brought in by ASK are suitable for kids between 2 to 6 years, though they’ve seen tots as young as 6 months old in the audience before. To book your tickets, check out the ASK Mini Program in WeChat by searching “小不点大视界 (xiǎo bù diǎn dà shì jiè)“.
Tickets to all their performances are priced at RMB 320 per pax. The venue is at the Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center in Dongcheng district, right next to the Temple of Heaven and about a 30-minute drive from the heart of town.
