While our minds may be on all the Halloween fun this weekend, let’s shift gears for a minute and consider others in society who need our care and support.
First up, as the weather cools and winter nears, heating becomes a key concern for many impoverished in China, such as the underprivileged orphans of Guang Ai charity center in Beijing. The center has served as a shelter and provided education for these struggling children to give them a better chance to succeed in life. Tayrona Beijing hopes to help raise RMB 80,000 that will help pay for heating for the upcoming winter at Guang Ai charity center.
To help raise funds, Tayrona is organizing a Cycling for Heat event this weekend on Sun, Oct 29. This full-day event will see participants cycling a total of 70-75km starting from Shunyi subway station, with lunch near Yan Qi Lake. The ticket cost of RMB 328 will get you a cycling jersey, snacks and event insurance, while all proceeds go to the Guang Ai charity center. The deadline for event registration is today, Oct 26.
While this event is mostly suited for teenagers and adults, Tayrona will also be holding another more child-friendly fundraising event in November so little ones can take part and help too. Stay tuned for more details. In the mean time, they are collecting monetary donations to help meet their goal! Reach out to Elisabeth from Tayrona by scanning her QR code below. She will also help to organize the donation of winter clothing items suitable for children aged 7 to 12. Please ensure that these clothes are in good condition and cleaned before donation.
Another charity effort underway this weekend, with perfect timing for Halloween, is Layers of Love’s Halloween DIY cookie kit that includes a set of 10 cookies + 5 bags of icing and sprinkles for decoration. The kit costs RMB 129 (before delivery) and all proceeds go to veterinary bills of stray dogs and cats that founder Ola rescues off the streets of Beijing. She’s also selling colorful eyeglasses chains (so you’ll never misplace another pair of glasses!) with 100 percent of the proceeds going towards her furry cause. Scan the QR codes in the poster to help out!
