October was a busy time for our kids’ schools, with lots of outdoor events with which to take advantage of the gorgeous autumn weather and plenty of community gatherings to allow for connection beyond the school walls. Here’s a recap of some of the most happening activities that our kids were involved in at their schools this past month!
Dulwich College Beijing (DCB) Games
In October, Dulwich College Beijing played host to a thrilling three-day event that brought together over 400 students from nine schools spanning thrre countries for our annual sports tournament, Dulwich Games.
In this highly anticipated Dulwich-Dehong network event, students went head-to-head with their peers in a range of sports that included athletics, swimming, and football. While the competition was fierce, it also built lasting friendships amongst students from different schools within our network.
The Dulwich Games serve as more than just a platform for physical activity; they impart valuable lessons in sportsmanship, teamwork, camaraderie – plus they are great fun!
BSB Sanlitun 20th Anniversary Celebration
On Fri, Oct 20, BSB Sanlitun celebrated its 20th Anniversary with the whole school community. The event began with a short speech from the school’s principal, Mr Brett, followed by a cake cutting ceremony and the singing of “Happy Birthday” in three languages led by some brilliant Year 6 singers. Alongside the various activities that were on offer, the Upper Primary (Years 5 & 6) students also organized a cake sale to raise fund for our local charities.
YCIS Community Impact Fair
At YCIS Beijing, students are not passive learners but are actively involved members of our community. At the Community Impact Fair in the final week of October, their engagement and dedication as change-makers, thought leaders, creative innovators and community service workers was palpable. This event was an excellent opportunity for the students to showcase their passion projects and learn about various initiatives and organisations that work towards positively impacting the community. With over twenty-five booths presenting student-led projects, student charity organisations, NGOs, and local activity organisations, the school auditorium was brimming with excitement and activity!
As a part of the CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) program, IB students have the chance to pursue their interests and passions by creating their own student clubs and inviting fellow students to join their initiatives to explore their common interests and expand their horizons. At the fair, the CAS IB students showcased a vast array of options, ranging from sports teams like badminton, table tennis, and basketball to cultural clubs like the Japanese Culture and Language Club. Moreover, students could sign up for incredible opportunities to participate in informative and inspirational events such as the student-led TEDx (Technology, Entertainment, Design) speech writing club to challenge themselves as thought leaders at the upcoming TEDx speech event in November.
