Don’t spend the next few days in darkness in your apartment. Be sure to top up your electricity as soon as possible! Over the weekend, Beijing News announced on their Weibo account that the Beijing Electric Power Grid has announced that it will suspend payment top-up from Dec 15 at 6pm until Dec 23 at 8am. During this period, you cannot top up your electricity card if you run out. This means, that if you run out of electricity during this time you won’t be able to pay via WeChat, Alipay, or even with a quick run to the ATM.
The reason for the suspension is due to a system upgrade. Following the upgrade, customer ID numbers will have 110 added to the beginning of their IDs. All other information will remain unchanged.
