Give a Present Christmas Market at Zarah
If you’re opting out of consumerism at Christmas, come to Zarah and don’t buy any presents but “give” presents to children in need. The gifts will be sent to the Beijing-based NGO Migrant Children Foundation (MCF), which aims to help disadvantaged children from migrant workers’ families in Beijing. Come and enjoy some freshly baked Christmas Cookies, German Lebkuchen, and homemade waffles while the lovely scent of roasted almonds and Gluehwine fills the air. If you would still like to support local businesses, this will be a great place to get special gifts, such as self-made jewelry, zero-waste products, handmade soaps, cards and illustrations, board games, cashmere scarves, vegan treats, and many other special DIY handicrafts.

It’s the season for giving back! Daystar Academy is dedicated to helping students become social innovators who better their local communities by taking action and helping to develop sustainable practices. This year they have partnered with the local Migrant Children’s Foundation! Come join them for the first fully vegan charity market and winter coat drive for the Migrant Children’s Foundation. Enjoy some good music, food, arts and crafts, and a chance to win some great prizes.

Christmas Eve on the Great Wall: Hemp Village to Gubeikou
The starting point for this hike, Hemp Village, is a tiny settlement hidden away at the end of a long valley. After the hike, you’ll head to a local restaurant where you’ll have a big (although maybe not so traditional) Christmas feast of Chinese food, washed down with a good amount of beer. After lunch, there will be a dumpling-making contest, with prizes awarded for “Most Dumplings” and “Best Dumpling.”
