The Furry Tales Christmas Coloring Contest could not have come at a better time this year as the snow falls over Beijing leading to the first official city-wide closure of schools that started on Dec 13 and extended to today. While the kids cheer and you start scratching your head over how to keep them entertained without sitting in front of the TV or iPad too much, consider taking part in local animal charity Furry Tales’ Christmas Coloring Competition!
Simply scan the QR code in the poster and pay the RMB 20 entry fee to Furry Tales co-founder Sorcha. You’ll then receive two pictures from her. Of the two, your child can choose their favorite and color that one, then snap a photo of it and and submit it to Sorcha by Dec 20. Submissions will be judged by age group: 4-7 years old, 8-10 years old, 11-16 years old, and two prizes will be awarded per age group. The prizes include Furry Tales swag such as coloring books, Christmas stockings and a personalized Christmas card from one of their rescues. Only one entry is allowed per child. All entry fees will be used to defray Furry Tales’ operational costs.
With winter bearing down on Beijing, the animal rescue group has more need of donations than ever. They are currently supporting 29 animals, and the funds go straight towards the medical cost of vaccinations, spaying/neutering, blood tests, etc. Furry Tales also has four “bigger” dogs in boarding, which need to go outside of China. If there are remaining donations after all the necessary costs, “I’d love to get some toys for them to play with, and maybe some winter gear,” says Sorcha.
Having aided 200 animals since the group’s inception two years ago, Furry Tales is celebrating with an anniversary party this Sat, Dec 16, at 7pm. The event calls for cocktail attire and will offer appetizers and a buffet. There will also be a silent auction with a long list of amazing prizes ranging from a Fork Set Meal for two (worth RMB 1,888) to a Kocoon Spa voucher (RMB 680) to Diddy’s Hood Home training session (worth RMB 600). There are still a few seats left so scan the QR code to secure a spot now!
