Today, the dragon raises its head. Um, what? In China, the second day of the second lunar month is called “龙抬头” (lóng táitóu) which literally translates to the “Dragon Raises Its Head” festival. In ancient folklore, it’s believed that the dragon wakes up on this day in anticipation for spring, and this cultural festival intertwines with the tradition of cutting hair, a practice believed to bring good luck and fresh beginnings.
In Chinese culture, hair symbolizes one’s vitality, and cutting it during this festival is a ritualistic act of renewal. The practice aims to remove the weight of the past and invite positive energy.
