Pearson/Edexcel Education and Cambridge Assessment International Education recently announced this year’s winners of the Outstanding Learner Awards in China and three students from The British School of Beijing (BSB), Shunyi have been named for their exceptional academic performance in the May 2019 Examination session.
The Outstanding Student Awards Programme celebrates the success of students taking IGCSE exams in over 40 countries worldwide.
Two BSB pupils received “Top in China” awards and one student was awarded “High Achievement” honors.
- Alexander Liu was awarded “Top in China” for achieving the highest mark in Music
- Jenny Fu was awarded “Top in China” for achieving the highest mark in Art
- Nicolas Pfitzinger was awarded “High Achievement” honors as one of the highest scorers in the region for his First Language German result, which is particularly outstanding as he was in Year 10 at the time he wrote the exam.
Jenny explained what she felt were the reasons for her success:
“Having a real passion for the subject and a commitment to never settling for anything less than your best is vital. Drawing on influences around you is also key. My teacher Ms. Bramley was fantastic at creating a calm, nurturing environment that brought out the very best in me.”
Richard Thornhill, Principal of The British School of Beijing, said:
“I am absolutely delighted for Alexander, Jenny, and Nicolas. Their high academic achievements are the result of hard work, dedicated support from home, and the expert help of their teachers. This year, our IGCSE results reflect our aspiration and determination for outstanding student success. This is shared by all in the BSB community and I am exceptionally proud of all our students and our staff here at The British School of Beijing.”
Rob Khan, Head of Secondary, said
“We are really pleased with our students receiving the Top Awards, highlighting how well our students perform. Bearing in mind the hundreds of schools in China that do the Cambridge and Edexcel examinations and the limited number of awards available, for BSB students to pick up three is truly remarkable. These awards reflect the hard work of teachers, the engagement of parents, and the students’ commitment to achieving which, when combined, produce the outstanding results we get year after year.”
The British School of Beijing has a proven track record of producing excellent academic results. In standardized testing of students at all levels, they sit well above the UK and global average. Their graduates are accepted into top universities worldwide.
Alexander and Jenny belonged to the Year 11 cohort last academic year. BSB’s Year 11 achieved amazing results collectively in their May 2019 IGCSE examinations:
- 46 percent of all grades awarded were A*- A, significantly above the UK average of 20 percent.
- 87 percent of grades were in the A* – C range.
- 66 percent of grades were in the A* – B range, demonstrating a real depth of high performance across all subjects.
- 93 percent of our students achieved the benchmark figure of five or more A* – C, compared to the UK average of 67 percent.
In particular, BSB has 10 students who achieved eight or more A*/A grades which is absolutely outstanding! Click here to read more.
